2nd Annual "Swing Into Spring" Dance and Lessons - April 12, 2008

At the Sugar Hill Meeting House, Route 117, Sugar Hill, NH

(Rates and times are at the bottom of the page.)

Have you ever watched "Dancing with the Stars" and wished you could learn some of those moves? Here's your chance!

When you hear “swing dance” (also referred to as Jitterbug, Rock ‘n Rock or 6-count Lindy) you might think “zoot suits” and poodle skirts, but it’s so much more than that. While originally done to music from the 40’s or 50’s, you can use your swing dance moves to dance to a wide variety of music played at weddings and social events.

The afternoon lessons are where it all begins with the fundamentals of not just Swing, but "partner dancing" where you’ll learn to establish a lead-follow connection that’s basic to any type of dancing. Two workshops will focus on basic swing moves while the third workshop will have you waltzing around the dance floor. Instructions will be provided by Jitterbug Jane, aka Jane Dumont, who’s been teaching and promoting dance for over 11 years in the central Connecticut region. Her unique, patient, and very simple technique makes it extremely easy for beginners to learn many styles of dancing both quickly and comfortably while having lots of fun in the process.

In the evening, you’ll have a chance to put those newly acquired steps into action at an old fashioned “Spring into Swing” dance at the Sugar Hill Meeting House, a quintessential town hall with a great wooden floor. Everyone loved the live music of the Slant Six Swing Band last year so we invited them back again this year. This popular band plays all the classic big band tunes as well as some Western swing standards. Lovers of swing music will appreciate their vocal harmonies, saxophone, violin, trumpet, keyboards, guitar, pedal steel guitar, flute, harmonica and more - all supported by an outstanding rhythm section.

No dance experience is required. No partner is needed. Singles and couples are welcome. The dance and workshops are open to the public. These classes are guaranteed to be a fun time and you will be dancing after the first class!
